Dr. Phoebe Godfrey from the University of Connecticut leads a discussion on sustainability and classroom engagement at the #SustainU2015 Campus Sustainability Conference, Tuesday, April 28, 2015 at Eastern Connecticut State University.

Session description: In this presentation students from UCONN who participated in a Sustainable Societies class will share their insights into the differences that classroom engagement makes in terms of their understanding of sustainability. Sustainability is often seen as merely an energy issue, when in fact it connects directly to not only what is taught in college classes but more importantly how college classes are taught. Their focus will be on the differences in their learning and in their ability to sustain that learning when presented with a pedagogy that empowered them as learners rather than disempowered them.
